Books Malcasa Point

Books

There are a number of interesting books about Malcasa Point, both fiction and non-fiction. The most recent is Richard Laymon's novel Friday Night in Beast House, although we can't necessarily say that it is completely factual and, frankly, it is intended for a very adult audience (it's published by Cemetary Dance -- click here).

In the near future, we hope to have a comprehensive list of books about Malcasa Point. We're still figuring out how to show them and allow people to buy them, though. Some of the most famous books about our town are:

Non-fiction

The Horror at Malcasa Point by Janice Crogan. Published in 1980, this book, written by Janice in less than two months, details the horrible experiences she had in the Beast House in 1979. It also contains a history of Beast House, including selections from Lilly Thorn's diary. There are a number of photographs, including the photo of the beast that we have here on our website. The Horror at Malcasa Point was on the best seller list for six weeks and was the basis for the film The Horror. It is still available in paperback and hardback, but the limited edition (with the simulated beast skin binding) is long out of print -- you might look for it on eBay.

Savage Times by Janice Crogan and Captain Frank Sullivan. This is a lovely (but expenisve -- $85.00) book which covers the complete history of Malcasa Point, the beasts, and Beast House. Written over a period of ten years, it includes interviews, photographs, illustrations, and pretty much anything else you'd want on the subject.

Fiction

Our own Dick Laymon has written a number of novelizations about the Beast House, including The Cellar, Beast House, The Midnight Tour, and Friday Night in Beast House. Did you know that Dick wanted to name his first book Beast House instead of The Cellar but that the publisher wouldn't let him because they thought people would think it was something like the movie Animal House? It's true!
